Services for Phyllis McFerrin, 73 of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Melonie Park Church in Lubbock with Rev. Wendell Horn officiating, burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery. The family will gather to receive friends from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Abell Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Phyllis died May 13, 2025 in Lubbock, TX.
Phyllis was born November 17, 1951, in Lubbock, TX, to Glen and Clara (Wood) Robertson. She graduated from Cotton Center High School in 1970 and went on to dedicate much of her life to serving others. She was married to Joe McFerrin and to that union they had 3 children, Shelley, Jeremy and John David. Phyllis worked as an aide at Abernathy Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless children with her patience and kindness. She also served as secretary for Pest Management Service and spent many years catering for the Lions Club, always bringing warmth and hospitality to every event.
Her faith played a central role in her life. As a longtime member of First Baptist Church Cotton Center, she served as a Mission Friends Leader, guiding and mentoring young children with compassion and joy.
Outside of her work and ministry, Phyllis was an avid water skier and gardener. Whether she was gliding across the lake or tending to her blooms, she lived life with energy and enthusiasm, finding joy in nature and family.
She is preceded in death by a daughter Sarah Kay McFerrin 1979, and a sister Shelley Stanley.
Phyllis is survived by her 3 children Shelley Berry and husband Shane of Cotton Center, TX, Jeremy McFerrin and wife Becca of Granbury, TX, and John David McFerrin of Dallas, TX , 7 grandchildren Sarah Berry of Rome, GA, Seth Berry and wife Bailey, Sterling Berry all of Cotton Center, Jett, Brecklyn, Jacoby and Ella McFerrin all of Granbury, and 2 sisters Jennifer Horn and husband Wendell of Lubbock and Sally Odenwald and husband Cliff of Garland, TX.
Family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Special Education Inclusion Program Fund in memory of Phyllis McFerrin at First State Bank P.O. Drawer 150, Abernathy, TX 79311.
